Golden rules for happy work life

Achieving work-life balance can be hard. More and more people are proclaiming that maintaining their personal and professional lives has become more challenging.

More extended working hours, more stress to get things done quickly, more pressure to succeed and limited personal time. Added together, this mixture of things creates more tension and plenty of daily conflicts.

But working more and harder doesn’t mean accomplishing more, especially if you have zero time to spend with the people that you value most.

1) Job that gives you extra time for yourself:
For many people, a career is something that permits them to build a lifestyle they appreciate outside the office.

Consider what you want your life to seem like. Do you want weekends off to spend with family? Loads of extra time to pursue your hobbies? A regular schedule that allows you to be home with your children every night?

If you like the life it allows you to plan, you are more likely to be satisfied at work.

2) Frequently ask for feedback:
Getting feedback about your work can either provide concrete reinforcement that makes you feel valued, or it can fill in essential skill and understanding notches that will help you do your job.

Request your boss for feedback after completing significant projects, or speak to the management team about executing regular employee evaluations to help everyone succeed at their jobs.

3) Manage your time smartly:
Missing to meet deadlines at work will not only stress you up but also give your supervisors a reason to complicate your life up. Don’t allow that to occur.

Always manage your time correctly, organize your assignments in their order of preference and make sure that you complete all of them in time.

4) Help colleagues:
Researches have shown that altruists in the workplace are more likely to feel fulfilled and are happier at work. The level of satisfaction that we derive from supporting others cannot be equated with anything else in the world. It gives a feeling of empowerment, enhances sanity, and makes us feel more associated with the organization.

Simple acts of compassion, expressions of appreciation, and offering help to colleagues in times of necessity can make us feel a lot better about ourselves and make us more content at work.

5) Value yourself first:
Work pressure often makes us forget our true worth. A mild reminder to ourself, a little throwback to the past successes can work wonders in bringing back the peace at the workplace. Happiness is nurtured when we can step back and take a moment for thanking ourselves.

6) Learn to say NO:
Have the pride, confidence and boldness to live life on your terms and say yes only to the things that matter to you.

When you are transparent on who matters most and what matters most, you gain certainty on who is essential and who isn’t. Your time is limited. When you start saying no to most things, you will become more focused.
